When verification will not complete
Verification is how Google confirms a business is real before the listing goes live. When it fails, the listing stays invisible. The route offered — phone, postcard, email or video — is chosen by Google rather than by you, and the fix depends on which one you were given and why it did not work.
An unverified profile is functionally an absent one. It does not appear in Maps, it cannot be managed properly, and for a business waiting on it the delay is not an administrative inconvenience — it is a channel that has not switched on. Verification failures are among the most frustrating problems in this area precisely because the process gives so little feedback.
The failures cluster into a few patterns. The phone number on the listing does not match the one associated with the business elsewhere, so the automated call never validates. A postcard is sent to an address the postal service cannot resolve and never arrives, and the request can only be repeated so many times. Video verification is attempted in one recording and rejected because the signage, premises and equipment were not all visible in a single unbroken take. Or the listing is simply not offered the method the business can actually complete.
When this work makes sense
Questions worth asking any supplier
Which method is Google actually offering? You cannot choose, and the fix depends entirely on which one you have.
Does the phone number on the listing match the number used on the website and in directories? Mismatches break automated verification.
Is the address one the postal service can actually deliver to as written? Postcards fail silently on ambiguous addresses.
For video: can you show signage, the premises and the equipment or stock in one continuous recording? Cuts cause rejection.
Has verification already been attempted several times? The number of retries available is limited and worth knowing before another attempt.
Deliverables
Diagnosis of why the current verification route is failing
Correction of the underlying mismatch — phone, address format, or business details
Preparation for video verification, including what must appear and in what order
Consistency check across your website and listings, so the details Google cross-references agree
Support through the retry or escalation process
Confirmation of verified status and a record of what resolved it

Process
This work starts by aligning your details everywhere before attempting verification again. Google cross-references the phone number and address against what it finds elsewhere, so a listing that disagrees with the website and the directories gives the automated check nothing to confirm. Fixing that alignment first often resolves a verification that had failed repeatedly, without any escalation being needed.
The standard nine stages — discovery, strategy, UX/UI, development, content and SEO, testing, launch, measurement, continuous improvement — apply to every project. The paragraph above is what differs for this one.
What moves the number
Pricing depends on scope, functionality, integrations and content requirements. These are the factors that change it most:
Verification routes and what each needs
Phone or SMS
Fits: Fastest when offered and when the number matches your other records
Limits: Fails on mismatched numbers, diverted lines and some VoIP services
Postcard
Fits: Businesses with a clear, deliverable street address
Limits: Slow, and fails silently when the address is ambiguous; retries are limited
Video
Fits: Increasingly the default, and workable when premises and signage exist
Limits: Requires one unbroken recording showing signage, location and evidence of operation

Frequently asked questions
Can I choose how to verify?
No. Google decides which methods to offer, based on factors it does not disclose. If the option you want is not there, the answer is to satisfy the one you have been given rather than to keep looking for another.
The verification call never comes. What now?
Usually the number on the listing does not match what Google finds elsewhere, or the line diverts in a way the automated call cannot complete. We align the number across your site and listings first, since that resolves it more often than escalation does.
My postcard never arrived.
Common, and usually an address-format problem rather than a postal one. The address has to be resolvable exactly as entered. Retries are limited, so it is worth correcting the format before requesting another rather than repeating the same request.
What does video verification involve?
A single continuous recording showing your signage, the premises including surroundings that prove the location, and evidence that you operate there — equipment, stock, or the workspace. Edits and cuts cause rejection, which is the most common reason a genuine business fails it.
We changed our phone number and lost verification.
That is expected behaviour rather than a fault. Update the number, ensure it matches your website and directory listings, then re-verify. Changing it back and forth makes things worse.
How long should verification take?
Phone verification is often immediate. Postcards take weeks and can fail. Video review typically takes days. If yours has been pending far beyond that, something is usually wrong rather than slow.
